Stripped some wallpaper fro my brother in law at the weekend, lifted the switches/sockets off the wall as I usually do and re-fitted them, as part of the process a loose earth was connected to a back box.
Left about 6:30 and after about 5 miles got a call to say he could not turn off the living room light. . . . . .
Went back to resolve, actually when turned it off it flashed at about 2-3 hz, low energy bulb fitted. Never seen it before but having read about it on here my immediate thought was "Leakage"
Turns out there was some water in one of the two way switches which had not affected anything until he turned the light off - the light had been on all day and for several hours after I had stripped the wallpaper around it. Turning the light off had presumably disturbed the water and caused the problem.
They didn't believe me when I said a standard bulb would sort it ! ! ! Well it didn't flash.
Another of the jobs I had done for him was to swop the switch on the landing which has a scratched faceplate for a new one and the cure was to replace the damp switch for the scratched until we are next up.
