Nice day and the wind has eased, so I've just been out to repair next door's adjoining fence panels, blown down Friday night. She (next door) disappeared a few weeks ago, whisked away in an ambulance - either passed away, or moved into care and now the place is left in the 'care' of the son's and they will not care, so down to me and Wendy to repair the boundary fence, or put up with it.

Fence repaired and overalls, plus wellies still on, I had in mind to block up the large old vent pipe, by forcing in discs of polystyrene - a hole I put in years ago, for a vented drier - 40 years ago. Which I had in mind was a large plastic pipe, which I had simply covered over with duct tape as a temporary botch, then got forgotten.

I got as far as digging out some 2" thick polystyrene and some more duct tape ready to reseal it, then went to look at the job itself. It was all done and neatly bricked up and pointed where it had been. I really don't recall having done it...

Too be fair, it is hidden behind our garden hut out of sight.

I've it some thought and inspected the mortar more closely and it's a perfect match for when I cemented up the old disused air vents around the outside wall. I did that little job a couple of years ago. I guess I had mixed mortar left over and decided to brick the hole up.

However, next doors fence blew down again last night, or I should say one panel blew out - I slipped up. I drilled through each panel, either side of the concrete posts, to thread rope through the panels and tightly around the posts for better security. I set off with the intention of doing each panel top and bottom, so a lashing in each corner. I did the bottom corners, but completely forgot to do the upper corners. So the blown out panel only blew out at top end.

Ah the joys of getting older, at least it's an excuse for forgetting birthdays & anniversaries.:sneaky:
