Hello, just moved to a newish house (1996), the living room has open stairs and I am already worrying about heat loss and sound going upstairs we do have a curtain but there must be a better solution, any ideas please?
you have around 1 degree variation for around 3 foot in height
so waist height down stairs will be say 21c deg same height up stairs [9 foot away] will be 24 degrees as heat rises
so all the radiators up stairs will have shut off its say 20c up stairs and your downstairs is struggling to reach 18c
THe sound comment is interesting. As a one time sound engineer I noticed that the TV/ hifi sound always seemed louder upstairs Some measuring found the answer! A staircase and landing form a crude exponential horn shape - the earliest form of sound amplification. So a wall and door is the answer.
