Hi

I have what I believe is an open system - header tank / cold water storage tank, "conventional" boiler & separate hot water tank.

The header tank is inside the storage tank I think (? space saving as system all in attic).

One plumber mentioned to me that it would be a good idea to convert to closed system.

Is this correct ?

What are advantages / disadvantages of both systems ?

Thanks

Stick with what you have. No point in a change unless something is actually wrong.
If boiler breaks go for a closed system at that time.

An open system is more prone to dirt and corrosion, so if yours is old, it would probably benefit from a chemical clean (very cheap and easy DIY job), and refilling using a corrosion inhibitor. If you can afford £100 and can do simple plumbing, add a sediment filter which will do a great deal of good.
