I'm planning on relocating the position of the staircase in a small 2up2down Victorian terrace. I can't find any information on how to go about creating a new hole in the upstairs room to allow for the stairs to go through. I'd like to understand the process even if its not something that I brave for myself but get a builder in to do.
The new set of straight stairs will run up the side of a party wall perpendicular to the joists. When the new opening is made in the room above, how are the joists that need to be cut through supported?
Do building control need to be notified?
If this really isn't in the league of a fairly competent DIY-er, then if anyone has any ball park figures for this sort of work to be carried out, I'd also be grateful.
I appreciate any advice.
