Opening up 3" hole in wall to 110mm

Hi,

The wall currently has a 3" approx diam hole passing thru to the outside , which probably was for a smaller clothes dryer machine.

I have just bought a new clothes dryer which needs probably a 110mm hole.

Any tips on setting up a Core Cutter rather than drilling around the circumference.

the important thing is to keep the pilot drill very straight and steady. When doing a comparable job in wood, the trick is to screw a solid piece of scrap timber to the far side of the piece you are drilling, and start the pilot into that. Once the pilot is in place, and the core has started cutting into the wall, it will be adequately supported. I would start at low speed first though to prevent it chattering while it starts to cut its groove.

As its a wall then a flat piece of timber [ ideally with a 110mm hole already drilled in it] on the inside will get you started as your pilots drill bit will not reach to external timber.

Or wedge a timber 'plug' cut to a neat fit in the existing hole to support the pilot bit. Remove it once the core bit has made a good start into the masonry.
