Evening all,

I have just removed a gruesome 70’s fire surround and have been thinking about opening up the fireplace to allow a burner to be fitted. However, it’s a corner fireplace and I don’t think there is that much space for it, however it’s hard to say.

Any advice on whether there is a possibility that this can be opened up a bit more relatively easily would be great. Any exploratory work that I can do to work it out?Pictures below

Thanks

Looks like you don’t have much space. The brick back..... what’s on the other side. Looks like being in the corner has limited your width to as is unless you could get a lintel to span over the corners? Not sure on the structural side of that? Height at present is at the lintel although this is not limiting. Depth may well be limited to as is.

Is it a working chimney?

Is there space within the room to build a hearth in front of that opening, and have a freestanding stove? Taking the flue from the back of the stove and into the chimbley?
