Hi,

So my loft has already been converted and it is ok but I want to maximise the storage.

Just now the plasterboard walls drop down about 1 to 1.5metres in from the eves. So I’m loosing space as behind the walls it is just beams with insulation laid in between. I want to open this space up.

I’m wondering is it possible to remove the plasterboard and keep in running down the inside roof until I’m as close to the eves as possible? Or is there building regulations saying you have to have so much space between the eves and any plastered boards walls you build.

Hope this makes sense, it’s hard without pictures.

The stud wall which the plasterboard is stuck to will be structural, so they can't be removed, If you take the pb off you'll have a hell of a job maintaining insulation/draughtproofing/dustproofing/soundproofing and probably fireproofing as well.

Normally doors are fitted into the low wall so you can access the space behind for storing junk.

that was one idea I had thought of, replace some of the pb walls with doors so I have access but I would still need to floor and plaster the space behind the pb walls so it would be usable.

The pb walls are not stuck to a wall they are just stuck to a wooden frame. Behind these pb walls it is just space in the eves with insulation.
