just installed my alarm system and wired the panel/bellbox connections from the manual for the relevant brand of bellbox etc the alarm works 100% fine commisioned walktested etc only problem i have on testing the outputs is that the strobe doesnt work at all ? even in full alarm condition..? before i take it back to screwfix owt else i should do ? already double checked the wiring at both ends fine...if its a faulty bellbox how the hell does it get past quality control! as if it is i now have the hassle of getting the ladders back out take it down blah blah blah cheers again

Lets assume you have checked the cables with a meter and have proved continuity and no shorts.

What panel and EWD have you used?

As for quality control, most companies have good QC, was the item chucked about in a van, dropped from a height, got wet?
And sometimes, just sometimes something does go wrong.

IMHO end users skim manuals and make errors.

What is the panel and EWD, perhaps we can help before you complain any further.

Same place HUD comes from,

EWD External Warning Device.
HUD Hold Up Device.

Not my doing see the men in the white coats who make up the regs!!!

Dont really think about the new abbreviations now tbh, used in site specs, as fitted etc.

it is a honeywell accenta ADE gen4 8 zone panel,& the sounder is an intellisense AG3 external sounder/strobe...in the AG3 sounder installation manual page 6/7 show connection diagrams to various control panels...the obvious diagram from which to wire to states ..connections to ADE,SL(chloride security lighting),accentia, optima, logic 4,compact,concept,ideal & ultimate... which are
strobe+ no connection
strobe- stb- (white)
D+BELL _ hold OFF+ (red)
A SCB _ HOLD OFF- (blue)
T SCB _ RTN- (yellow)
B-BELL _ TRG- (black)
so thats how ive wired it to diagram as shown ? will double check it again though + continuity..any more suggestions failing that cheers again, and finally i have to wire my smoke alarms yet for the house either hard wired mains voltage or maybe smokes incorperated into my new intruder alarm system ..any veiws on this as obviously if there was a fire it would be much more broadcast ie siren/strobe activated than just an internal alarm alerting near neighbours etc as i plan to rent the house out in a few yrs & co :)

Put a link from +stb to the Hold off+. Should solve your problem.

Fire alarms for rented properties have stricter rules.
I would go for linked units in the bedrooms and on all landings, obviously on the ground floor too. Mains operated with batetry backup.
Local authourity website will have what they expect from you.

Regards

Interesting.

I have exactly the same problem - siren works but strobe doesn't.

My wiring diagram though shows the following (and this is how I've wired it):

Panel Siren Colour

Strobe + Blank
Strobe - STB Yellow
SCB T RTN White
SCB A Hold off - Green
Bell + Hold off + Red
Bell - Trig Black

Confused!!

Link Strobe + to Hold Off +

Sounder / Strobe requires 12v to work, you're not giving that

Many thanks.

Strobe + linked to hold off + (both within the sounder box) and all working as it should.

Instruction booklet clearly inadequate.

Cheers
