Laying a ply floor, cutting straight lines is simple with my Bosch oscillating tool, but cutting out shapes and rounded corners is near impossible to do neatly......or am I missing something, do any of you experts use them for cutting out rounded shapes ?

What you are missing is a jigsaw - and if you need to cut very tight radii a blade such as the Bosch T101AOF (BTW that isn't one of my typos, the T101AOF is a version of the T101AO specifically made for use on laminate flooring, etc)

What shapes and rounded corners are there in a floor?

For pipes, use and endmill bit, or a normal bit in a drill to get the curve.

But don't forget that these aren't the be all and end all. Sometimes a some basic handtools are much more appropriate and quicker

you need to remember the blade travels in a strait line a few mm either side off the blade
now the only way to get anything remotely looking like an arc requires the machine to be rotated at a constant speed around a constant pivot point which is impossible to do in any thing other than around 6mm material :D

remember on an arc its the outside edge either end off the blade that cuts the arc

Got the Jigsaw out anyway, to cut out the toilet base.
I personally dont own a jigsaw, I use my 25 year old 110v one I carry on my van, which always has to be acompanied by the heavy Transformer, so Im looking to invest in one for myself, What are your expert opinions on Battery powered ones, Im not going to be using it day in day out, simply for DIY jobs around the house.....Im favouring a battery powered one, simply for its ease to move around without trailing leads etc etc....

Thanks for the advice chaps

If you already have cordless tools, buy a bare one that uses the same battery and charger. That said, since you have access to one is it really worth buying one unless you are flush with cash? I rarely use mine either at home or for work.

We had a ryobi cordless grinder and recip saw at work, they were dreadfull for pro day in day out use, the one I have access to is old and as I mentioned its 110v so has to have the heavy transformer. Looking at the costs of decent battery jigsaws, I think I may go for corded after all......however, I do very much appreciate your advice chaps

well as i say diy :D
did you have the ultrafine disks for the grinder

my ryobi 18v recip saw performed as well as the dewalt recip
what size where the batteries and how old where they

I have the Makita 4350 and I can't fault it but I guess any of the trade brands will be fine. Go for one that is also available in 110V to be sure of getting a good one.
