I am looking at replacing an old metal PIR lantern at our front door.

It was already there when we moved in, and has been wired with conduit running on the outside of the wall.

I was looking at a half lantern this time, possibly the LAP LED one from Screwfix, or one from Toolstation that take BC bulbs.

Due to the wiring being external rather than through a hole in the wall, it would mean feeding the wire from the top or side, which means the light won't sit flush against the brickwork.

Can anyway recommend a half lantern?

Is there a better way to feed the power cable in without feeding it inside the wall then out a hole behind? As I'll be doing this myself, I wouldn't know where to start to feed wire inside a wall!

Thanks.

Put the light on the wall so that the cable entry point is level with a mortar joint either bottom or side and scrape out some mortar so the cable sits inside enough for the fitting to sit flush

That could be a good solution. Was looking at feeding the cable straight down from above, so there will be less mortar to play with. Hopefully enough to reach the gland at back of light though.
