Hi folks,

A have a run of seven wooden steps leading down from a balcony (house is on a hill). Several of the treads have started to deteriorate and need to be replaced. I might do all seven of them while I'm at it. The stringers look fine.

The construction is perhaps a bit unusual: rather than sawtooth-shaped stringers with the treads sitting on top, the stringers are straight with the treads sitting on blocks attached to the stringers.

Width of treads is about 75cm. Existing treads and stringers are painted black - I'll paint new ones to match, and put non-slip tape strips on them.

What type of wood would you use for this please? Ideally a term which I can easily relate to something available from B&Q or Wickes.

Thanks!
