I'm trying to extend my washing machine waste pipe as it's too far. The B&Q guy gave me a waste pipe, outlet union and a jubilee clip. However, the outlet union won't fit into the end of the waste pipe. It just won't go in. Has he given me the wrong size? Or am I doing something wrong?

I've attached pictures of the outlet union and the Waste pipe. The circled end is where the union won't fit into.

Thanks

Common problem the waste pipe stocked by B&Q and many others is a replacement waste pipe not an extension pipe hence the connector does not fit.
Some times it's possible to use 'back to front' the other end is a good fit but that leaves the wider end to connect to the spigot under the sink this can be done if the spigot has a tapering spout which can be cut back to use the thicker end.
Or you can use a short section of 22mm copper, this will accept both your existing and larger extension hose which must be secured with a jubilee clip at both ends of the copper.

Hi foxhole, thanks for your reply. I tried to do the "back to front" but the wider end won't fit into the spigot under the sink.
I was thinking of using lots of duct tape to stick them together.
I'll try the 22mm copper option. Thanks again.

by the looks, the wider end is desgned for the manufacturers waste pipe to push into, not join to. the use of a jubilee clip would still be required. either that or take it back to B & Q and get a refund, ans not appropriate for the machine. Comet do the right ones!
