Outside compression tap leaking

Hi, the outside tap has started leaking and is tucked behind one of the base units on the kitchen. I can only see it through a hand size hole from where we isolate the water. It looks like one of those wickes outside tap kits that screws into the main water pipe . The tap itself is leaking.
If I gain access which will be very tight would it be an easy job for a novice to remove the screw in section then replace with a T section compression.the same as is used for a washer fitting. And would this fit the existing flexible pipe . Are they both 3/4 fittings . Thanks

the fitting is probably 1/2" BSP

for historical reasons, this is what it's called, though it does not measure half an inch.

Washing machine tap is the same, 3/4" fitting, so hose to feed outside tap will screw straight on. Replacing the self cutting tap with a Tee fitting is easy enough, depending on the situation. You need room to work, be able to cut the pipe, get enough wiggle room to slot the Tee in and then access with spanners to tighten the compression nuts.

If you can get a small pipe cutter in, then may be easier to fit a 'Push Fit' fitting onto the copper, avoids need for spanners etc, however cuts must be made with a cutter, anything else will leave ragged edges which will shred the rubber O ring in push fit fittings and they will leak!

Hi , thanks for replying this is the tap through the hand sized hole . A would have to cut away some of the unit to gain access. Thanks

That diy kit should be removed and a new connection and pipework with isolation, non return valve and drain off fitted.
