Outside Light and RCD

Two questions:
Does an external light need to have an RCD? My house has one outside light on a switch FCU from the ring so has RCD. Another comes off the lighting circuit in the garage and does not have RCD protection.


I would like to add LED downlights to the front soffits but I think that as I want a PIR to control them it would become notifiable if I do it myself?

However you do it it's notifiable, strictly speaking.

But as Approved Document P erroneously says it's not, as long as there are no exposed outdoor connections, if you keep all the cables in the loft you'll get away with it.

Thanks for the clarification! the house.Looks like I might be adding sown lights to the house. I need something as it a bit dark at the front of
