Hi All,

Would you wire outside lighting in to the ground floor lighting circuit, or from the ground floor mains ring.

There is a potential a flood light would be fitted to this outside lighting, and if someone happened to fit a 500w flood light this would be 2A of the lighting circuit used already (although for as long as I live there it will just be a lower wattage)

I think you have answered your own question.

Although 500W lamps are now frowned upon.
You would have to justify their usage.

Since over 150W you need to apply for permission from local council it would be rare for DIY to fit over this value. Yes seems daft today one would have expected a lumen output limit rather than watts but that does mean as it stands we can still fit 70W metal halide and clearly they are well over the top for any normal domestic situation.

Big problem with outside light is water ingress and one needs to ensure should this happen you can isolate all live feeds this includes the neutral so the fault will not cause the RCD to trip all the time. Easy way is with a switched fused connection unit (FCU) and if RCD protection is not already provided then a RCD FCU it needs to include a switch to isolated the neutral.

Since this will have a fuse there is no problem using sockets supply.
