Looking for some help.

Installing 3 separate outside lights, 1 rear security light,1 side light with PIR and 1 LV down lighters at front (2 sets of 6 lights/2 transformers)......

I've ran 3 separate 1.5mm cables from CU area to the various points where the lights will be fitted. Was going to wire them to a 3 way switch then through and fused spur or RCD then into lighting circuit will this be ok.

Is it also ok to use 1.5mm from the RCD to the CU or would a heavier cable be better.

Thanks for any advise

You made mention of picking up the feed from the existing light circuit, why would you be running a cable back to the CU ?

Taking the live feed from the nearest light position / rose with loop in / out would be more sensible.

As for 1.5mm that should be fine- it can handle approx 16 amps and I cant see the total load on the new lights being 3700w odd.

What you should do is audit the lighting circuit you intend to come from and check that the sum of load (all lights on) including the new ones won't overload the existing fuse rating at the CU (6 amp ???).

If that's likely then a spur from a ring main via a suitably fused spur may be the best option.

Regs apply due to external work.

cheers for the reply Chri5

Was going to put a 3 way switch on the board next to the CU to control all outside lights from the same point.

had a look at the houses next door(these houses are only 4 years old) and they all have outside lights connected to a switch in this cupboard and are connected straight into the lighting circuit on the CU.

would you not install a new trip solely for this lighting?

If there spare at the CU and the light cable runs . switching is local to the CU then yes I would.

Your OP didn't mention those details, so sorry for any greyness.
