oven wires

I had an electrical test done on my flat and the electrician found that the oven was wired from its flexible cable via a junction box to a thicker cable not as flexible. At first he said it was not safe but then checked it and wired it back the same way is it safe and normal for the gauge of the wires to be that different??? It is wired into the wall socket.

what exactly is this wall socket? a double socket? a single socket? a cooker switch/socket? a flex outlet plate? a fused connection unit?

Flex and cable should not be joined as you have described. The oven should be on a 13A fuse if its less than 3kw.
 
Are you saying the oven was connected directly to the socket circuit via a joint box, and your electrician has installed an FCU, which the cooker now connects to?
