Have asked before but still undecided, what’s the best product to put on top of a chipboard floor in a bathroom/shower tray?
Was thinking 6mm ply but there seems so many other options, no more ply etc?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Check below the floor that it is well supported for the tray to sit on top, fully supported with extra dwangs between the joists added if needed and then a WBP ply or OSB3 on top. Or cut out the chipboard and replace with a 22mm piece of the same.

Hate any chipboard living underneath anything that could leak onto it as the board will just turn to mush.

12mm ply on top of the chipboard and a screw every 150mm and it’s solid
Thanks, floor is ok, just a small bit that needs to replacing. I was thinking 6mm ply or maybe no more ply, so you think either of these will be any good.
Think I prefer the normal ply as it comes in larger lengths compared with the no more ply.
thanks again, not sure what everyone else recommends?

I was just worried about the floor height but will look into the 12mm, are you not a fan of stuff like no more ply then?

I spanned every joist with noggins, then no more ply.
Solid as concrete after 10 years.
No more ply screws are rubbish, use gyprock screws with countersink.

If you want the tray level to the floor (or just the height of the tray if it's low level) then you need to cut out the P5/CB flooring and replace with 22mm WBP ply or OSB3 or similar.
As suggested, a min of 12mm would be advised, if on top.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the advice

No more ply which is 6mm or 12mm ply.

no idea which to go for now!

I know professionals (tilers in the main) that swear by concrete backer boards, no more ply being one of them. It is more the material of choice for tilers/joiners as they are working with each other to prep the floor/walls for tiling, which backer board is great for as far as a wet space is concerned. Far superior than plasterboard walls and for overboarding chipboard flooring and if asked I would always suggest them as an option to waterproof a space.

Never used it for setting trays on but they do say that 6mm board is equivalent to 18mm ply from a strength and movement perspective but never used it as such so wouldn't recommend.

Not tilling the floor just wanted something to sure/strengthen up the floor before putting the tray in. Will do the whole floor but still undecided to go for no more ply 6mm or 12mm normal ply, ahh!.
Going to do the walls in aquapanel.

thanks all

Think I am going to go for the 6mm no more ply, unless anything thinks that’s will cause problems and thinks it the wrong choice?

thanks again

Ok,
A few things I have misunderstood here.
I thought you wanted a bomb proof solution for tiling on. That's why I suggested extra noggins and NMP.
If you want extra strength I would suggest you follow others replacing chipboard with ply.
I did both under my bath using chipboard flooring with 22mm ply on top to support the bath legs.

The floor isn’t that bad at all just wanted to put something over the chipboard.

Is it ok to bed the shower tray on top of no more ply 6mm.

thanks
