Paint On Outside walls

Hi there

when i bought my house a few months ago the survay revealed that the paint on the outside stopped the house breathing so to speak.
My brickwork on the outside has been painted white but i would like to remove the paint and have it back to brick as its a lovely victorian place and would look good back the way it should be.
How is this done i have heard about sandblasting what is this is it messy ?

Any info would be good.

Although the term still survives, sand is banned from use in commercial applications as the very fine glass/silica particles caused during the process are a serious health hazard. Basically, it will be some other form of blasting media (plastic beads, crushed coconut shells etc) mixed with water. This process is used to clean historic buildings (& Nelsons column) but it’s a bit specialised; apply too much pressure & you could destroy the brickwork underneath. It’s extremely messy, can be laborious & I suspect, quiet expensive!

Depending on what sort of paint it is, it may be possible to use some form of paint stripper & a commercial pressure washer to jet off the softened paint. There may be specialist companies doing this who could give you a quote (again, probably not very cheap) but if your thinking of DIY, then you will need a commercial pressure washer; the 100 quid one you clean the car with will never cope!
