Obviously rates differ vastly but what do you pro guys reckon we should be paying for a decorator to prep & paint/wallpaper a dining room measuring 11x11ft......taking into account the patio doors in one wall and the double doors leading into the lounge on the other, and all paint/paper supplied also painting celing and skirting. all the old paper has been stripped.

Impossible to say without seeing the room and the quality of your preparation. Sometimes when customers hope to save money by stripping paper themselves and providing the materials, it backfires and ends up costing them more.

You don't mention what exactly you want doing in terms of painting.

Also, are you expecting a decorator to put paper straight onto a bare wall, or have you stipulated it must be crosslined first?

How much have you been quoted?

Bloke from the pub - £50 per day, cash only or bar tab

Odd job/handy man - £70-80 per day, but will want you to give him10/10 on his checkatrade account

Experienced professional decorator £120-150 per day, drinks a lot of tea but will probably do it better and quicker than the first two options.
