Painting on top of Yacht Varnish

Hi guys,

I've just covered our pine cladding in the bathroom with super-waterproof yacht varnish. Unfortunately this has changed the colour rather too much and we are now thinking of painting over it with white paint?

Is this possible ? and any techniques I should follow? ANd do I need knotting solution or is it already sealed OK with the varnish ?
