Hello!
I've just had my walls and ceiling re-plastered and I am in the process of painting. I know cheap paint is usually a false economy but I've read that it's ok to use it as a base coat. So, with a bit of water added for the mist coat (if that's the right terminology) I've painted everything with cheap matt white emulsion with the intention of painting over it with some good stuff, probably Dulux. The problem is that this initial coat is very soft, you can scratch it away with a thumb nail and it turns into white powder. I'm worried that this will be a poor foundation for the paint that's going on top. Would it be ok to just paint over the cheap stuff and hope that the good paint holds everything together? I would rather not do a botch job so would it be worth sanding the whole lot off and starting again? Although this would be an epic pain in the backside!
Thanks for any help!
