Hi
I want to gloss paint a north-facing porch-protected front door that has been stained originally with a Dulux Woodstain and latterly with Ronseal 5 year Woodstain. I've started to sand it lightly but the top coat is starting to peel in some areas rather than just flatting off leaving a blistered finish. Presumably this is because it wasn't applied correctly or it's something to do with its "breathable" feature. Whatever the cause, what would you suggest to get back to a sound base (the coat below the top coat seems sound.) Would you power sand or chemical strip back? The Ronseal is a water-based stain so is there a chemical product that's not too aggressive that might just remove this layer?
Thanks
