I had some new softwood garage doors made (as I needed a non-standard size), which came treated with two coats of Barrentine oak-tinted wood preserver. The knots are very annoying and I would like to gloss finish them in the colour of our front door. They have now been in place for seven months and I'm hoping that any undesirable oil-based carrier will have evaporated by now.
After knotting, should I use any particular primer, or just undercoat and topcoat? The makers of the treatment advise against it and suggest further coats of their same preserver - but then I suppose they would?
Many thanks for your suggestions.
