I have painted 2 plywood fire doors, i gave them 1 coat of emulsion and then 2 coats of gloss but still do not look right, can still see dark shades from the plywood, i should have given a few more coats of emulsion until all white but never mind, lesson learnt. What to do from here though, another coat of gloss or coat of emulsion over the gloss, then more gloss. I have a tin of zinsser white primer so i could use that as a primer before a final coat of gloss?

Emulsion is no good as an undercoat to Gloss. You should have used the Zinsser Primer on the raw wood door first, then a coat of either water based undercoat or oil based undercoat. Then applied your gloss. Using a 4 inch roller will help get the paint on quicker and more evenly. Try giving the doors you have already done another coat of gloss using the roller.

Thanks for that tip, painted with a roller today, seemed to go well and 10 times quicker.
