I am just about to paint my hall way and stairs. The walls are plasterboard and are approx 5 years old. I need to cut some tapes out and fill which fillers are the best all round to use on plasterboard and wood.

Which grade sand paper should I use on the walls do I need to sand the ceiling?

Anything else I should use for the prep sugar soap?

Thanks for any advice

I have found Toupret as sold by Toolstation to be an excellent filler for plasterwork. If filling in holes in wood then a 2-part epoxy filler such as Ronseal is excellent.

Hi sorry for the hijack but I am in the same position, want to get much better results than just slapping some new paint on so need to know:
- What grade sandpaper should I use to key the walls
- Should I paint the woodwork before or after?
- what filler / caulk should I use around door frames where there is a crack?

As suggested go for toupret and sand down with 240 grade paper, if the woodwork you need to fill is just little dents etc the just fill with the same filler and use a decorators caulk to fill any gaps in door frames and along the skirting. What finish of paint is on the walls and ceiling at the moment?

Trade matt I think.

Should I use 240 for sanding everything.

Is Toupret but the poly cell trade one fill?

Thanks for the help

There's no need to sand the walls providing they have a Matt finish.
Use a grade 80 paper for the woodwork, sand it to take off the shine. Wash any grease and grime away before painting.
