painting pvcu door

can i paint my pvcu door and if so with what ...would it be primer and any gloss or special paint ? it has slight flaking in parts and is looking a bit shabby...

This is a new plastic front door which was Black. I gave it a coat of oil based grey undercoat, then two coats of Valspar water based gloss. Looks great !!
