I am about to start painting skirting boards and do not want to change existing carpet. What is the best way to do this without getting the paint on the carpet or fluff from the carpet on the paint?
Generally the best way to do this is to use 2" wide masking tape and stick it to the carpet so it touches the wood of the skirting or stringing. Press it down as low as it will go. Paint the woodwork allowing yourself to go onto the tape. Make sure you pull up the tape before tha paint dries or this will leave a line across your skirting. The tape will pull the carpet pile back up and also any fluff, hair etc from the carpet.
