Hi all,

Im fitting new skirting and facings, if i'm going for white is it best to buy white primed mdf? or get pine and paint that?

If pine whats the best way, treat the knots and paint from there?

Thanks

if your painting anyway mdf is the way forward, its cheap as chips, easy to work with and fitted correctly you get an excellant finish

If you use mdf make sure you rub it down between coats and before you undercoat it especially if it has a moulded top

With knots you give them a wipe over with white spirit then apply one or two coats of knotting...remember its not jst knots..look for splits and other resinous areas too

if you want it to last get treated pine mdf is very cheap and nasty will absorb water if not sealed correctly and can swell.
cheers

Yeh I agree with that too...plus pre primed MDF has a very rough finish if its been routered to create moulded strips
