Hi all,

I am wanting to spruce up my wooden window handles, they are made of metal and are like a green/gold colour, looks cack!

They are this kind of design...

I have removed a set, have sanded, primed, painted (all with spray can stuff) and it has come out good.

I have quite a lot to do though so was wondering if it's possible to just paint over them with wall paint (i.e. Dulux), or would the paint just flake off?

Thanks

Alan,

By spray painting these handles you have applied a cellulose coating, whilst it would be fine to apply an alkyd based paint system, it is however unwise to apply either emulsion or any other form of water based coating.

Water based paints will be unable to form a bond with the underlying paint system and in turn will become brittle and lift from the surface.

Cheers Dec, I've just found them on ebay for £2-£3 in a local town, I'm going to check them out tomorrow to see if they sell the right ones.

Why whould you call them casement stays?!?! Took me ages to find them

Where you have a window that has an opening window within it, this is called a casement window. Just as Dec says. ;)
