I did not watch this programme, but thanks for bringing it to my attention. I had seen the news comment, which I thought was pretty indicative of this government's policy:

Amidst all the talk about Brexit - about borders and about trade - ministers have said almost nothing about how immigration will be controlled after the UK leaves the EU. They have not yet come up with the answer to a fundamental question - who should we let in?
The Home Office originally promised to publish its plans for a new immigration policy before Christmas. Then it said the spring. Now ministers say it'll be in the autumn.

I think it is more systemic then just simply targeting a narrow demographic, it is dramatically reducing the potential applicant pool.
Currently the potential applicant pool is global. But in the future any new policy will intrinsically exclude EU migrants.
Potential EU applicants will be put off applying as a demonstration against the 'new' policy towards EU migrants, and because of the new uncertainty and difficulties encountered.
Migration into UK, in the future, will be a life-changing, semi-permanent decision, not the temporary decision it is currently for EU migrants, especially the young, mobile, occupationally active workers.

Seems that you are the one who is 'thick as shoite'. You and the other LWRs still don't get it that the floods of economic migrants are here on the orders of multinational business and the money men. They see unlimited immigration as the only way to grow economies, their businesses, and countries GDPs. No matter the cost to the ordinary populations who shoulder ALL the burden and gain little. And the LWRs don't even realise that they are unthinkingly helping the capitalist machine that they are presumably against. Problem you have is you only think in absolutes and generalisations. There are many hard left who don't like the EU just like many on the hard right. But then there are on the left and the right who support the EU.

Depends on the birth rate, demographically Western Europeans are in decline and could become an endangered species in the not to distant future, it could be a case of who becomes extinct first ,the red squirrel or the bloke on the Clapham omnibus.

You actually could a point, one of the problems is the demographic imbalance between young and old, not enough indigenous young people being produced to compensate for all these unpatriotic old people who are spoiling it for everyone else by still shuffling around well past their use by date.
Why waste time and money raising British children to become workers when you can import ready made workers from other countries, it is a bit like why brew your beer when you can get a ready made pint in Wetherspoons, it is all the fault of feminism
