I live in an old house (1912), and would like to restore the parquet floors. Well my husband would, I prefer nice warm carpets. The floors have been covered with carpet for over twenty years. They are loose in some areas and have paint etc all over them.

I did get a chap to come in thinking he could do it for us, but he wanted to take the whole floor up, do something with the sub floor - dig it up and all that would have come to £45 plus a square foot. Not what we where after.

My husband thinks it would be an easy task but I hesitate because of all the work involved. don't get me wrong we have alway been able to DIY but neither of us are in great health and the thought of sanding each block for hours on end I find really daunting.

Anyone any ideas or know anyone in the Merseyside are who could do just one of the floors without charging an arm and a leg.

WHat do I do with loose blocks, if I do decided to do it my self.

THe floor under the blocks is old but in tact.

Help pretty please.

Sell them to me, I want a reclaimed parquet floor  ..If you can get the loose ones out then gripfill under should do..as for sanding I would think a large floor sander would be ok, finishing the edges with a small one  Try one of the woodwork forums here.this forum is a bit quiet usually

needs to be a bitumin adhesive for parquet flooring such as laybond no 17
Apart from the fact that the blocks will burn like buggery thats all i know about them
