We're planning on laying some 10mm thick oak parquet by gluing (Styccobond) directly to the concrete subfloor across 3 adjacent rooms, with each room about 10 sq m in area.

In the 1st room the existing floor level is spot on. In the 2nd L-shaped room (hallway) it's mainly level except for about 3 sq m at one end where it slopes away by about 9-10mm over a 1.5m distance. In the 3rd room it's level throughout except for a 15cm wide strip which snakes round the side of the room for about 5 metres in total, dipping by up to 8mm - this is where a builder previously re-routed the pipework when a radiator was moved to the opposite side of the room.

Firstly, how tolerant is parquet to slight height variations? Is there a rule of thumb for the change in height per unit distance which is acceptable?

Secondly, is it possible to use self-levelling compound on just the sloping area (2nd room) and 15cm x 5m strip (3rd room) and blend or feather the edges into the existing concrete floor? Or do we need to apply self-levelling compound to a whole room at a time?

As the plan is to have wood floor across all 3 rooms, if we have to self-level a whole room at a time does this have to be done across all 3 rooms just so that heights/levels between each room remain the same? I'd really like to avoid this is at all possible as the cost of 30sqm of self-levelling compound works out more expensive than the parquet which we picked up from eBay)!

Many thanks in advance.
