If work is carried out in a bathroom should the owner of the house ie the person having the work done , should they receive a copy of the test certificate from the sparks and also some paperwork from the council / building control to say the work has been registered.
A friend has had some downlighters fitted to their bathroom and a vanity mirror with a light built in , also should the sparks have replaced the mcb with a rcbo as it isnt a split board.

Normally you'd get a BS7671 certificate directly from the spark (either an EIC or an MWC depending on what was done), and then a Part P certificate, either from the spark's scheme operator or the LABC (I'm not sure which off hand).

Any new electrical items in a bathroom must be RCD protected, so if the existing circuit is not, then either the whole circuit should be protected, or an RCD should be put in to protect the items in the bathroom (this could be done by putting an RCD unit outside the bathroom for example).

The EIC/Minor works carried out by the electrician would have been left on site or should be sent with the paperwork.

The certificate of building compliance may take a while longer. We use the NIC and they give us 30 days from completing the work to then notify it. Then the cert can take 3-4 weeks to arrive so you could be looking at anything between 3 - 8 weeks.

Paper work should be supplied to person ordering work. So where work is done through a grant or by a land lord the occupant may not get a copy.

However if you ordered the work you should get copy and it should be forwarded to owner.
