When I update my kitchen, to save money I'm considering doing the re-wire myself (House has just been fully re-wired bar kitchen, due to impending re modelling) - is this now legal, if I get it checked and certified after I have done the work? Or do I have to get a qualified person in to do it to part P regs now!?

Netto... :D

If you want to do it yourself, start by contacting your local authority "building Control" dept.

They will probably have leaflets and a web page on it.

It is possible to pay them a fee to check your Plans and inspect your work, much as they would do under Building regulations if you wanted to knock down a load-bearing wall or lay drains and foundations. Some are more helpful than others.

That is the alternative to having it done by a pro who is a member of one of the self-certification schemes.
