my passport as dates of issue 23rd feb 2017... end date 23rd april 2027 can i travel with this

Yes its the last 2 months of the validity that will be the issue in the EU when the passport has less than 6 months for some countries 3 months for others to expiry

Just double check, Simon Calder was on about this the other day, about passports over 10 years old not being valid in some countries

Wouldn't passports over 10 years old be expired anyway?

If you apply for new one before your old one expires you get the extra months added on, I think

Correct. That's exactly what's causing the uproar... I think I read that the extra months rule has gone for newly issued passports. Anyone confirm?

The controversy with this is that some countries take the dates from the issue date of the passport - not the expiry date. So, for some countries, the added time for renewing early is not counted.
