Hi,

I have misted a newly skimmed wall with 30% diluted supermatt Dulux paint. The mist coat looks a bit of a mess in places meaning that there are patches which are slightly than others. Is this normal or should I take corrective action to make sure the two top coats look right once applied?

Thanks

No. Mist coats work best when you wizz over them three times in quick succession.

Hi Larco, Joe-90 is right, when you go over the skimmed plaster with the thinned supermatt, it will be patchy, but all it means is that the plaster has sucked the paint in better in some places than others. When new plaster has been polished off with the trowel, in some places it can feel more smooth to the touch and this shine prevents the paint absorbing into it by various degrees.
That is why you give it one coat, followed after a very short time drying time by a second and then even a third coat until it has taken on an all over white colour.
