There are a huge number of people who are new to computing and many of them are unable to find or attend a class for beginners. So 'computer jargon' is a mystery to them. Nobody expects a completely inexperienced person to commission a gas boiler, for example (probably against the rules, but you know what I mean).

So I think it would be kind to explain in replies how to actually do something. Terminology like 'slave' goes completely over their heads.

So a little more tolerance for amateurs, eh guys ? I should add that there are some respondents who are always sympathetic and patient with the uninitiated and they are deserving of thanks and appreciation.

I think your heart is in the right place, Persimmon, but I also think that baby-talk wrt to computers is a mistake.

I frequently come across professionals who start inventing crazy jargon and analogies of their own when trying to avoid using the regular and clearly-defined terms.

IMHO it's far better to use the correct words, but in a plain way, and then be available to define the words and provide more explanation when needed/wanted.

If definitions really are frequently needed, then the Wiki is the place to put them, not on each topic that mentions the words "master" and "slave".

You are so, so right Persimmon. Softus, I, as one of the uninitiated, thank you for your patience, your tolerance and your understanding.

ps You are the second contributer I have thanked thus.
