Patio weekend

Hi, we have started our patio and have a couple of questions if anyone can help?
1. Does it matter if the mot type 1 sits in the hole we have just dug out (approx 9m by 4m) for a couple of weeks until we get time to lay the slabs?
2. Also, we are going to end up with a step up into the garden from the patio because of the level of the damp course. Are we correct in thinking that we should put a french drain in front of the step up?

1. absolutly not. rake it over to the level you want. foot traffic will help to compact it into place.

2. it all depends how the falls on the patio go and where it drains to. If its going to run to the step and have nowhere else to go then it will need a drain.

agree with Thermo, left alone with gravity and the elements, mot compacts rather well.
