Had the driveway sealed in Covid by a local firm who were expensive, and the job rather poor (I feel). I've just cleaned and re-sanded the driveway myself. I'm not a pro, and the job looks OK.

Having been put off by sealing from the experience of the first time, I decided what the H and just went for it.

I applied a coat of Sika Patio Seal, and it looks fine. The £60 and a few hours I've spent certainly look value for money when I consider the £1000 I paid during Covid, and wasn't overly impressed with it. If its £60 and a few hours a year thats required, then fine I guess...

Anyway, the Sika sealant says apply a second coat within 2 hours. Naively and due to not being a pro, I only bought one tub of 5L seal, so don't have enough for a second coat. What is the science/reason behind this 2 hour specification? What will happen if I apply a second coat tomorrow?

My head is saying, surely nothing "bad" is going to occur?

Ring up Sika and ask to speak to their technical department, they deal with these kinds of queries all day long. 01707 394 444

Appreciate the reply, but less hassle to put a second coat down tomorrow.

Was it water based or spirit based. If it is the former then it will not ahere very well to the first coat. If it is a spirit based one it will soften and reactivate the first coat and adhere without a problem.

Water based. And based on feedback from above/elsewhere, it seems as though binding is the issue, resulting in PVA type layers, which might just peel away.

Which is fine, now I understand. Thats the answer I was after.
