Paving slabs on soil

I’ve got some spare paving slabs that I’d like to lay on this space. I would like to use sand and cement to level them with the existing concrete.

I was unsure on how I need to prep this ground so that the slabs don’t sink, etc.

I also have a grinder and can cut the slabs to size.

Id just scrape off 100mm of soil. Gravel to level and sharp sand and cement.

Do I mix the cement and sand as mortar?

I’ve dug this up and was wondering whether I can pour some shingle, compact it, pour some MOT and compact and finally use a mortar mix to set the paving slabs.

Shingle doesn't compact, you need 100mm of Type 1 followed by a 50mm mortar bed.

Approximately how many bags of Type 1 do I need? Also how many bags of sand and cement.

You can set them up on an aluminum subframe if you're feeling flush. Provides good drainage.

Around 2.8sqm

500kg of Type 1 will give 100mm sub-base. 200kg of Sharp Sand and 3-4 bags of cement should give a good strong mix at 50mm depth.

Having a rethink on this. I’ve got 8 bags of sand and 3 cement. Can I mix these or add some ballast to fill this space in instead?
