i have a dell pc screen that crashed during use
it has a ac adapter to give 14v i checked the 5 amp
fuse is ok but there is no power light showing on the
screen and a second screen works fine.
is this a common fault or am i just unlucky with this one?
and is it possible to test the adapter here's hoping

hi igorian no the second screen is a hp and
has a different power cable, but it's worth me
getting a tester from screwfix as they are not expensive
& it will be useful in future

You may find a new power supply as cheap as a tester on ebay

Agreed,

its fairly likely the psu has failed, leaving it on for a while does the psu feel warm at all?
As above better off just chancing it and getting a replacement PSU off ebay if you haven't got a multimeter of sorts to hand.

hi diyisfun / festive
i managed to borrow a test meter and am
getting no reading between the live or nuetral mains in,
and the jack pin, but both the live & nuetral of the
pin have a circit to the mains in earth ,i assume
this to indicate that something has shorted out hence
the instant loss of power, as per your advice thanks!
i will check on ebay or amazon for a replacement.
