Hi all,
I need to put in a soakaway for the rainwater from the downpipes. We already have one on the same land which has 8 crates which serves our old house.
Building control have said we need to carry out a percolation test which seems pointless as we already know what we need and I'd prefer not to have to dig a 1mx1m square 2m deep!
Building control just want to know the results for the test. Does anyone what the correct figure would be for an 8 crate soakaway.
Using the formula: time in seconds for water to seep away from 75% to 25%, divided by 150mm. This apparently gives the average time in seconds (Vp) required for the water to drop 1mm.
Then I have to use that figure to work out the soil infiltration rate.
Can anyone help out or have any idea what the appropriate figure would be for 8 crates?
Thanks in advance.

It's usually a 300mm cube that's filled and left to empty overnight then timed the second day.

I think the roof area is needed for the calculation too.
