Performance difference - 1.1 litre and a 1.2?

It depends on the power output of the engine really so looking at the BHP specifications is the thing to do......check out the torque figures too from a rag such as 'What Car'.
In the good old days, the bigger the engine the obviously better, but its not always the case now.
John :)

All things being equal about 9% I would think, but as John says it depends on all things being equal.

I've just gone from a 1.9l 120HP engine to a 1.7L 125HP engine, torque figures are about the same

VW's 1.9 Tdi goes from 90 bhp up to 170 bhp with numerous steps in between......no one says how well the transmission and clutches cope :p

But the real pet is the +170BHP 1.4 they are fitting in some of the VW group hot hatches (Skoda Fabia ect).

Turbo and supercharged

170bhp from a 1.4 engine.....when I was into motorcycles some years back, some folks reckoned that an indicator of reliability was to divide the BHP by the piston area in square inches, and if the answer was below 3.7, probably OK, but above 3.7, likely to give trouble. Be interesting to do that here!
