Hi. I'm trying to plumb in a period radiator. I've used 3/4" x 1/2" reducers to make modern valves fit. It leaks around the reducers, where they screw into the radiator. I used PTFE tape around the threads but perhaps that's not enough. Would a good helping of jointing compound do it? Or should I be using some kind of washer?

Thanks!
Chris

Jointing compound, PTFE tape wound around the threads in the correct direction then more compound before you screw the fitting in really tight should do it!

If it was my cast iron radiator I'd use Atmos Paste (a white epoxy) as sold by Homebase. I've used it successfully on numerous occasions to seal this type of problem.
