Permanent live not needed?

Hello All,

I do not need my ceiling shower extractor fan to over-run on the timer, if i just connect it with the switched live and Neutral and miss out the permanent live, will is still work when switched on? Someone told be that I may need to connect the switched live to the permanent live by a short wire.
