Peugeot 306 Diesel

Hi, could anyone help me? My car has black smoke when running, could the timing belt have slipped and caused this? ( injectors and turbo seem to be ok) How could I check/reset the timing if neccesary? thanks.

Unlikely that timing has slipped unless it has been played with.More likely to be:- restricted air intake (filter)
injector tips fouling up
fuel pump fault

I would first try a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank and take it on the motorway at 70mph for about 10 miles,if you get no improvement take out the injectors and look at the condition or the tips(may need re-tipping).If no joy,have the pump checked out.Hope this helps...
