I have a Samsung smartphone where the USB charging socket n the base is worn out and has intermittent contact. I have tried several new cables.

Any recommendations of a repair service?

I'd probably have a new battery as well.

I've seen utubes of people opening the case using heat to melt the glue and prying it off, but I (a) can't be bothered (b) might break it if I had a go myself.

did it once myself and it wasn't too bad, most town centres seem to have a shop or two doing these sort of repairs and shouldn't cost the earth.

Leave it to the experts, they are well practised in opening them and such fine soldering as needed to fit a new socket, plus the tools needed. Rather than suffering the constant wear and tear of plugging and unplugging my Iphone, I use a magnetic adaptor. A tiny adaptor plugs into the phone, the charge cable has a magnet at the plug end, just bring the two together and they connect. They do identical ones for most phones.
