If the car has a diesel engine, I'd guess either the glow plugs have become lazy, or the fuel is returning back to the tank causing a delayed start.

Hi john thanks for your reply. I have changed the glow plugs but still the same. How does the fuel return? Cheers

You need to measure the voltage on glow plugs when you switch ignition on to start vehicle because most (all?)of the Citroen/Peugeot have a relay that controls power to them.

Not a plain switching relay these have printed circuit panel with quite a bit of electronics on them. Their operation, when on and for how long for instance, is all dependant on engine temperature etc.

Indeed, check the supply to the plugs but on the hdi engine, they aren't energised for very long!
If you car has a diesel priming bulb, give it a few squeezes until resistance is felt and then immediately try to start up. It could have a plunger system though, right alongside the fuel filter.

How healthy is the battery too, if you have some jump leads hook them up to another car to see if it starts any better.

I would agree. How fast is it turning over? It has to reach a predetermined speed before the injectors open, a poor battery or starter can cause the problem.
